How to clean laminate flooring?

We know that no one wants to spend hours cleaning their floors. Fortunately, Pergo laminate flooring is easy to maintain without much time or effort. Which frees you to get on with the more important things in life. Find out everything you need to know about how to clean laminate flooring, how to protect it from damage, and how to deal with spills or stains.

Step-by-step guide: how to clean laminate flooring

You’ve spent the day at work or looking after your little ones, so cleaning your laminate floor is at the very bottom of the list of things you feel like doing before you can put your feet up and relax. Fortunately, it doesn’t take too much time or effort to keep your floor looking sparkling. Here’s how.

Every week – sweep up

We recommend using a vacuum cleaner with soft wheels and a special parquet brush.

Every month – a good mop

Clean a little more thoroughly once a month. For floors that get dirty quickly, do this twice a month. It’s important that, when you mop a laminate floor, you don’t use too much water – it could damage the floor. Follow these four steps:

Step 1: Vacuum thoroughly.

Step 2: Fill the water tank of your Pergo floor mop with water and 1 teaspoon of Pergo Floor Cleaner (you can use 3 teaspoons for an intensive clean if necessary). Fill a bucket with clean water for rinsing out your mop.

Step 3: Pull the lever on the mop to moisten your floor and begin, working in the direction of the planks or tiles to avoid streaks.

Step 4: Rinse the mop in the clean water and wring it out well. Then wipe over your floor and let it air dry.

Clear up spills

At Pergo we’re all about that Scandinavian combination of beauty with practicality, and so all our laminate floors are coated with AquaSafe, our in-house developed technology that stops water from penetrating the grooves. But do keep in mind that any spills need to be removed within 24 hours, or 72 hours if your floor has a 15-year wet warranty.

How to remove stains from laminate flooring

Whether you’ve knocked over a cup of coffee or some paint has dripped on the floor in a DIY accident, busy lives means little accidents can easily happen. We get it. That’s why we’ve got your back with our handy guide to removing stains from laminate floors. Our number one piece of advice? Clean it up immediately: the sooner you act, the easier it will be to fix.

  • If the culprit is coffee, tea, wine, chocolate or juice, use a damp cloth (ideally, white cotton) to remove as much as you can, then apply Pergo Floor Cleaner thinned in lukewarm water (3 teaspoons per 300ml water).
  • For nail varnish, marker pen, paint or rubber, spray Pergo Spot Cleaner directly onto the stain and leave to soak for up to five minutes before rubbing firmly with a clean, damp cloth.
